Church History
The Ancaster Christian Reformed Church was organized in the spring of 1976. At that time 47 families were counted. May 12, 1976, Classis Hamilton approved the plans to organise the new church.
June 27, 1976: the Ancaster CRC held its very first worship service in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Rev J. Klomps led the morning service and Rev. E. Gritter in the evening. Quentin De Vries, son of Harry and Erna, was baptised that morning.
July 18, 1976: the congregation voted in favour of placing a call to Mr. Martin Contant, a recent graduate of Calvin Seminary.
Oct. 1, 1976: Rev. Martin Contant was ordained and installed in the Ryerson United Church, where we now worshiped due to increasing membership.
March 5, 1978: purchase of property on Hwy. #53, our present location, was finalised.
1980: Pastor Contant accepts a call to Langley, British Columbia.
Oct. 1, 1981: our second pastor, Cecil Van Niejenhuis, recent graduate from Calvin Seminary and intern at Burlington CRC was ordained and installed.
Feb. 28, 1985: due to increasing growth, the congregation gave its approval to commence with the building program.
1985: Pastor Van Niejenhuis accepts call to Lacombe, Alberta.
Feb. 2, 1986: Rev. Ken Baker led us in a 'Thanksgiving' service in our new fascilities.
April 18, 1986: the official service of celebration and dedication of the new church building.
Sept. 5, 1986: Rev. Bernard De Jonge from Exeter was installed.
1998: extra classrooms, council room, and library fascilities were added.
1999: parking lot was enlarged and paved.
June 27, 1999: Pastor De Jonge preached his farewell sermon.
June 4, 2000: Pastor Gordon Pols from Clarkson CRC was installed.
Sept. 7, 2003: the church begins two morning worship services in order to temporarily solve our overcrowding problems in the morning worship services.
May, 2004: the church returns to the single morning worship service.
Nov. 26, 2006: Pastor Steve preaches his fairwell sermon before he leaves to become the Chaplain at Queen's University.
June 24, 2007: Pastor Gordon Pols retires and preaches his final sermon as a full time minister after 37 years in the CRC.
August, 2008: Pastor M. Jeff Klingenberg joins our ministry team.
